I Am Legend

Ok, I need to take a break today from outlines of ethics and offer a brief critique of the movie I Am Legend.  I wasn’t sure of what to make of this movie from the previews, but I can tell you that I was pleasantly surprised at how the movie turned out.  There was no gratuitous sex or unnecessarily foul language, although there could have been both.  The movie was “clean” regarding those things and did a great job of sticking to the point.  The movie captured the “Legend.”

What was most surprising and refreshing was the very clear redemption message of the movie.  Throughout the movie, there are references to “God,” and you aren’t sure where the movie is going with those references, although they do not seem to be headed in a positive direction.  Nevertheless, by the end of the movie, there is a redemption story unfolding before the camera, as the legend is transformed from a desperately lonely and loosely insane man seeking suicide to the legend he becomes by a sacrificial redemption once he learns to listen rather than to speak. This is certainly a movie worth seeing.
