YouTube – Tucson Shooting Hero Joe Zamudio Sets Ed Schultz Right On Owning A Pistol.
After a long diatribe against gun ownership, Ed Schultz gets a quick refutation from reality. Joe lives in the real world with real sin and evil. So, He has a realistic view of gun ownership.
Yet, leaving aside the whole gun issue for now, I want to comment on the startling audacity of sin. This Loughner guy has just killed 6 people and shot dozens of rounds which injured many more people. When he is subdued, he cries, “Ow, you’re hurting my arm.” Incredible.
This is exactly how sin works, isn’t it? You must not hurt me. I must not be injured or inconvenienced, while I go about doing whatever I want without regard for others. It is shocking. I know this Loughner guy appears to be insane (and I am sure that he is). But his remarks are very consistent with the nature of sin.
Sin nature traps us all (though not to this degree, Thank God). Christ is, therefore, candid about the call to follow Him. It comes with, “Deny yourself” as the starting point (Luke 9:23). We must deny ourselves, take up our crosses (not our swords or pistols) and follow Christ. Unfortunately, Loughner did just the opposite (rejected Christ, rejected the cross, and completely indulged his sinful appetites).
[P.S. Doesn’t Joe look like a grown up O.P. Taylor?]
