There is a dangerous violation of the constitution underway in the guise of fiscal responsibility. A Republican Senator (Charles Grassley of Iowa) is launching a panel investigation against 6 ministries. Granted, the ministries are of the questionable sort; it may even be true that the likes of Benny Hinn, Joyce Meyer, and Kenneth Copeland are reprehensible (in their doctrine, if not in their ethics). Still, the Senate has no business meddling in their affairs and determining whether these ministries are legitimate. If allowed to stand, this maneuver will be a foot in the door to shut down any ministry perceived by a government official to be “illegitimate,” even though the Constitution states that Congress shall make no law regarding the establishment of religion.
