We spoke on Sunday at Cedar Grove concerning how sin is worse than hell. We cannot conceive of anything being worse than Hell because Hell is for eternity; it is torment. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
But why is Hell that way? Is it not because of the presence and power of sin. What makes Hell so intolerable except for the sin for which Hell was made. In short, sin is worse than Hell in the same way rape or murder is worse than prison. Prison is the place of assigned punishment. The crime is the cause. The crime is bad and evil in itself. The punishment–though awful in many respects–is not itself evil; it is justice. The crime, then, is worse than the punishment. In that way, sin is worse than Hell.
