At www.bioethics.com , you can read of the present status of organ transplantation in China. China is second only to the U.S. in the number of organ transplants each year. In May, China reported strict legislation that made organ transplants possible on a “free will” basis, that is, possible only for patients who freely volunteer their organs. Now, a U.S. delegation is negotiating with China concerning organ transplantation and harvesting. Yet, before anything is decided, I hope our U.S. delegation will speak with Mattel. You know there have been problems with the importing of toys from China. Toys are one thing, but human organs are quite another. Extreme caution seems to me to be in order.
